should i use this for a 3 phase elevator that is 30 years old? because when it starts it takes 15 Amps on each phase for a second, then it drops to under 1 Amp

If the neutral is lost and the return to neutral via a bonded ground in the sub and the main ground ..... It's all going to ground....why would you feel it enough to hurt you or shock you severely....the same with the neutral...the neutral is grounded in the system, and at the power pole as well along with transformer case ...when you touch the neutral while its hot and unbalanced, you don't feel it like you would with the ungrounded hot wires of course. So....why is it such a bad thing to run grounds and neutrals and bonding safety equipment grounds to grounding. The main panels are grounded, neutral grounded, and connected via a bar and green bonding screw placed in position ... All to ground....why would you feel any unbalanced load, or in a fault, feel anything, etc ... This is nuts. I say ground everything everywhere....send all neutrals to ground in the event of a lost neutral, send safety bonding to ground and multiple grounding rods that are at least 6' apart, and bond for safety all metal panels to same said grounding rods for safety. If it runs to grounding, you won't feel it, it shouldn't hurt you, etc.... open neutrals can hurt you too. If they run to grounds...they can't hurt you.

Answer: because current leaves the source and returns to the source. The grounded neutral conductor is a current-carrying-conductor and the equipment grounding conductor is not. If both EGC and GROUNDED conductor carried current back to the source there'd be a parallel path which in turn would slow down the returning fault current, or short-circuit current. We want to clear a fault as quickly as possible and that is why the EGC and NEUTRAL conductor are isolated downstream from the MAIN DISCONNECT.

I think my former home owners did their own sub panel next to the main one in the basement, I figure this because there were 20 amp breakers on 14ga wire. Thank you for this now I can check to make sure they wired the sub panel correctly.

A charged car batterie puts out at least 12.6v. With the fuel pump fuse removed: - The battery voltage drops during cold cranking to around 10v. Cold cranking voltage varies with the temperature of the battery. A good battery will go back to 12.6v quickly once you stop cranking.

I get each motor phase is connected to a pair of mosfets so that its state will be open, power or ground.. but the magic seems to happen in that black box "controller" that takes the pwm from the controller and drives 6 mosfets. It also uses the back-emf from the non-driven phase(s) to determine when commutation timing. And I understand that pwm is used for brushed DC motors, but why does it have to be PWM for brushless?
